Introducing The Onyx Witch

December 14, 2020

I do believe an introduction is in order. If you wander around the internet you can find my real name, however I request that you do not use it here. For the intents and purposes of this blog, my name is Ivyanna or Ivy for short.

If you aren't quite sure how you got here or maybe you've come from another section of the internet (pinterest, instagram, Google Search, link from another blog, etc.) but either way thank you so much for reading even this far and welcome!
I am a solitary eclectic pagan witch and I practice what I call traditional witchcraft.
I will break down all of these for you because someone who is maybe just beginning their magical journey might be going, "omg, what? What does that mean?!" and a more adept person might go "no, no you've got it all wrong."
  • Solitary is pretty easy, it just means I do not practice in a coven. Nothing against them, just not my bag.
  • Eclectic gets a little more precarious. It just means I do not conform to 1 tradition of paganism. I.E I am not Wiccan. Nor am I a druid. Nor am I a heathen. I borrow bits and pieces from each.
  • Pagan I use to loosely cover all the different sects or traditions that I borrow from. Pagan is the umbrella that most polytheistic (multiple deity worshiping) religions fall under. I say most because Hinduism is polytheistic but is not Pagan. It is its own separate religion, with different branches under it. The same way Christian is the umbrella term for being Lutheran, Protestant, Catholic or Baptist. It is important to note that you do not have to believe in a deity at all. You can identify yourself as "non-secular."
  • Witch is definitely the most controversial of the terms I use to identify myself with. You can be Wiccan but not a Witch. You can be a Witch but not of any Pagan faith. The terms are not synonymous.

The type of "witchcraft" that I practice is what I call traditional because I do not follow these newer tenants that say not to harm others, I do not believe in a threefold law and I use what most call "white magic" or "black magic" interchangeably. In fact, it is my belief that those terms were coined to shame witches for their practice, divide us and set us against one another. See the American Political Party System for how that works out.
My forte is protection magic with an emphasis on shielding and banishment. I also am excellent at crafting hexes or curses in an "offense is the best defense" school of thought. So that is very much what a lot of this blog will be about. The first few posts will be introductory, such as this one in order to familiarize you with terms as well as my personal tone.

Feel free to ask questions or for clarification in the comments. I cannot promise that the response will be speedy on these first few blog posts, but your questions will get answered.
